Happy Morning

Lovely day out there, if still a bit chilly. Weather witches claim it'll hit 65 today, which is possible as it got up to around 62 down at the house.

Saw a fetching young lass on a GSXR600 this morning on the way in sandwiched in traffic amongst all the cagers. Not sure if she's a serious moto-commuter or not, as she was wearing a heavy leather jacket and blue jeans. Not something I'd do, but then again I'm not exactly normal with my racing-grade leather pants and Hi-Vis Aerostich.

Bubba's running fine, thank God. Can't imagine how bad my fuel bill would be if he weren't running well. Commuting I get 38-42mpg, and it's taking nearly $10 to fill the tank nowadays with that $2.50/gallon gas. Could be worse, as I could be filling up an SUV gas tank with a C-note like all those other boneheads.

(Edit: Hah. I wish it were $2.50 now. Hit $4.49 in July.)

Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

Wife, Sister-in-Law, and Man-Cub went out for some errands to help the S-I-L complete her project for her seminar art class, so I was stuck with only two wheels. Thankfully, the weather cooperated and I was forced to endure only sprinkles and short bursts of drizzle on my way to and from Church this fine morning. Indeed, I stopped my neighbor's house to introduce myself whereupon I was promptly invited to ride down with him and attend the Tacoma meeting of VME on Thursday. A Good day!

Even better, just minutes after pulling up to the house and parking the Honda, the skies opened up. Simply pouring down rain on my already completely waterlogged yard.

Hehe. It's rather fun to ride through puddles in 2nd gear and twist the throttle open. Tire spins up nicely. =)

Bit Damp

More than a bit, actually. Been coming down in buckets off 'n' on throughout the day today. We've got puddles on the side streets near the house that are so large, that I'm simply waiting for the Army Corps of Engineers to swoop in and build levees around them.

With a little luck I'll be able to get out for a non-commuting ride this weekend. This is April, but I'm just not in the mood to go ride around in a gully-washer/frog-stranger just to say I went out this weekend.

Something Old, Something New

It's funny how you start to ponder how much more fun you'd have on a new bike, when it's been a little while since you've ridden your Old Reliable. You ponder the niceties of electric windscreens, cruise control, OEM heated grips and seat, a CD player. Then you go ride Old Reliable and you forget all that. You simply enjoy what you love about the bike you already own. When I'm on Bubba I realize that I don't really need all of that to enjoy myself.

And there's something to be said for not having to make a monthly bike loan payment too.

Oh Mr. Phil...Yoohoo...

I got a beef with Mr. Punxatawney Phil. Here it is several weeks into the official Spring season, and I'm freezing my tail off. 34F this morning, about 2C for brothers and sisters north of the border.

It's not raining, but it's been close enough to black ice formation temps that I ride rather gingerly on overpasses and bridges. Very nervous stuff.
